In March 2017 one of the locations of terre di confine filmfestival is a house in the center of Asuni, renovated and converted into a Documentation Center. During the tenth edition of the festival, this house hosts a section of the photo and video exhibition by Simone Cireddu and Barbara Pinna entitled 'La MINA' ('the mine'). Its story goes as follows.
In 2002, Antonio Porcu (in the photo), born in Asuni and migrated to Bologna, donates his birthplace to the Municipality of Asuni.
At that time he cannot fulfill his dream of coming back to his native island; however, he wants to dedicate his house in Asuni to the migrants' experience, not only his own, but those of all Sardinian people abroad. That was the first seed for the creation of MEA, the Museum of Emigration in Asuni: this small but authentic farmhouse became a small chest for storing and narrating stories of emigration.
Also called 'the small Museum' ('il Museino'), it is not far from the main structure of the MEA, just a short walk in the tiny historical center of Asuni; it is a traditional house with rocky front yard, a few rooms and a kitchen overlooking a nice porch (sa lolla), a fireplace, a well, a lemon tree. An intimate place that still keeps its inner soul and offers its space to those who are forced 'outside Sardinia', those who have left.
